2003 Pat Taylor Memorial Christmas Parade
11/21/03

ADA— The Pat Taylor Memorial Christmas Parade kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 in Ada.

“If you like musicals, you’re going to like this year’s parade,” says KYKC station manager Mike Hall. Once again, KYKC radio station is the organizing entity for this year’s parade, along with local parade sponsors.

The parade theme for this year is: My favorite Christmas Song and entry forms are available on-line by going to www.kykc.net, then, locate “event registration” on the home page, click and register. Or, call KYKC studios at 580-436-1616 for a faxed entry form or stop by KYKC 100.1 FM radio station located at 121 S. Constant in Ada.

This year’s parade marshal is founder and CEO Harlan Stonecipher of Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., an Oklahoma-based company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, headquartered in Ada.

“We’re receiving entry forms daily and people are really having fun with this year’s theme…we’ll all be tapping our feet and singing along this year,” says Kay Hall, KYKC public relations director and parade chair.

There are five categories for judging: Float, Band, Walking Group, Horse Group, Classic Cars/Truck (includes motorcycles), with first place receiving $100 and second place $50. And, all parade entries will be entered into a grand prize drawing for $500.

Back again this year as a pre-parade activity is the “It’s A Cute Pooch” contest. “We had lots of fun with this last year with 30 something dogs entered,” says Kay Hall.

The doggie contest is different this year. The time and place has moved to the Pontotoc County Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) at 1200 Sandy Creek Drive, north of the PEC building, and it will be conducted the Tuesday before the parade, Dec. 2, with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m. There’s a $5 entry fee per dog contestant, with all proceeds going to PAWS.

Judging categories for the “Cute Pooch Contest include: Cutest Pooch, Closest to Parade Theme, Funniest Dog and Owner/Dog look Alike. Dogs are limited to 2 categories. Winners of the Cute Pooch contest will ride in the parade on their own float titled: “Dogs on Parade.” There will be all kinds of prizes to take home for winners and participates. Dog owners may register the night of the contest or pre-register by calling KYKC, 580-436-1616.

“We’re still looking for Christmas caroling groups to join us before the parade to entertain the crowd,” Kay Hall said. “We’ll also have hot chocolate, popcorn and cinnamon roasted pecans being sold.”
